Windscreen Washer Pump Diagnosis & Replacement in South London

No washer spray does not always mean the pump has failed. SP88 checks the reservoir, fuse or supply, switch command, hoses and blocked jets before recommending a suitable pump.

Find where the washer system has stopped

Front and rear washers may share a reservoir or use different pump outlets. A motor sound with no spray points in a different direction from a completely silent system.

Fluid and reservoir

Fluid level, obvious contamination, leaks and accessible reservoir damage are checked before electrical parts are blamed.

Electrical supply and command

Available fuse, supply, ground and switch or control evidence is checked. Some vehicles route the request through a body-control module.

Pump and hose routing

The pump outlet, grommet, hoses and joints are checked for leakage, disconnection or restriction where accessible.

Jets and front/rear split

Blocked or frozen jets and a fault affecting only one end of the vehicle are separated from a complete pump failure.

How the visit works

Tell us what still works

Confirm whether the pump can be heard and whether the front, rear or both washer systems have stopped.

Test the likely cause

SP88 checks available electrical and fluid-path evidence before condemning the pump.

Repair and prove spray

A suitable pump, grommet, hose or accessible electrical repair is fitted where practical, then the spray pattern is rechecked.

Clear vision is a safety and MOT issue

Do not continue in conditions where the windscreen cannot be kept clear. Never run the pump repeatedly with an empty reservoir, and do not pour boiling water onto frozen glass or washer components.

Mobile where suitable, workshop when necessary

Many washer-pump and hose faults are suitable for mobile work. Some reservoirs sit behind wheel-arch liners or bumpers; damaged body fittings, extensive access or control-module faults may need workshop time. Parts are matched to the vehicle and front/rear arrangement.

Questions customers ask

The pump runs but nothing sprays. Is it faulty?

Not necessarily. An empty reservoir, split hose, blocked jet, frozen fluid or a leaking grommet can stop spray while the motor still runs.

Why does only the rear washer fail?

The rear hose is longer and may disconnect or leak inside the vehicle. A dual-outlet pump or changeover valve may also fail in one direction.

Can you fit a universal washer pump?

Compatibility is not assumed. Connector, mounting, pressure, outlet direction and reservoir sealing must match the vehicle.

Can washer fluid freeze?

Yes, if the mixture is too weak for the temperature. Thawing and checking for split hoses or fittings may be necessary before parts are judged.

Send the vehicle details before booking

Include the registration, make and model, postcode and the symptoms. That helps SP88 check likely access, parts options and whether the first visit should be mobile diagnosis or workshop work.
