Throttle Body Diagnosis & Replacement in South London
A throttle-body fault code, rough idle or reduced-power message does not automatically mean the unit needs replacing. SP88 checks the intake, wiring, commanded angle and related engine data first, then confirms whether cleaning, a wiring repair or replacement is appropriate.
Diagnosis comes before a throttle body
Similar symptoms can come from intake leaks, a contaminated airflow sensor, accelerator-pedal sensors, low voltage, wiring faults, ignition problems, EGR faults or engine-management adaptations. Carbon around the throttle plate may be relevant, but it is not proof that cleaning will fix the vehicle.
We review stored faults, available live data, visible intake condition and electrical connections before agreeing parts.
Symptoms we investigate
- Unstable or unusually high idle
- Hesitation, stalling or poor response
- Reduced-power or limp-mode warning
- Throttle-position or actuator fault codes
- Vehicle starts but will not respond normally to the accelerator
If the engine will not control speed safely, repeatedly stalls in traffic or shows a red warning, do not continue driving for a diagnostic appointment.
Cleaning, adaptation or replacement
Some cable-operated units are mechanically simple; electronic throttle bodies combine a motor, gears and position sensors. Cleaning is only suitable when the unit and manufacturer procedure allow it. Forcing an electronic plate or using the wrong chemical can damage coatings or gears.
After suitable replacement or cleaning, some vehicles require an ignition cycle, idle relearn or scan-tool adaptation. SP88 follows the vehicle-specific procedure and confirms that faults and live readings are sensible after the work.
Correct parts and safe access
The registration or VIN is used to match the bore, connector, actuator and gasket. Some throttle bodies have coolant hoses or awkward intake access; a new seal or gasket may be required. We do not fit a universal part or promise that every fault will be cured by replacing the unit.
Mobile work may be suitable where the engine is cool, access is reasonable and the vehicle is safely parked. Workshop work may be recommended for major dismantling, seized hardware, coolant-system work or faults requiring longer controlled testing.
Appointments and related help
Scheduled services start on weekdays at 10:00, 12:00 or 14:00. Weekends are closed. Send the registration, symptoms, warning messages and any fault codes already read so we can plan the right inspection.
