Lambda Sensor Diagnosis & Replacement in South London

A lambda or oxygen-sensor fault code does not automatically mean the sensor needs replacing. SP88 checks live data, wiring and engine conditions first, then confirms the correct upstream or downstream sensor and whether replacement is suitable at your location.

A fault code is the starting point

Lambda readings can be affected by intake leaks, exhaust leaks, misfires, fuel-pressure faults, injectors, wiring, heater circuits and catalytic-converter condition. We review the code and available live data before agreeing a sensor.

Replacing a sensor without fixing the cause can leave the warning light on and risk damage to the new part or catalyst.

Symptoms and warnings

  • Engine warning light with an oxygen-sensor code
  • Poor fuel economy or unstable fuelling
  • Failed emissions test
  • Slow or implausible sensor response in live data
  • Heater-circuit or wiring fault

These signs overlap with other engine and exhaust faults. An emissions result or code alone is not proof of sensor failure.

Upstream and downstream sensors

Vehicles may use several sensors before and after one or more catalytic converters. Upstream sensors help control fuelling; downstream sensors monitor catalyst performance. Wideband and switching sensors use different signals and wiring.

The exact bank, position and connector must be confirmed from the registration or VIN. SP88 does not fit a universal sensor or guess the position from a generic code description.

What the agreed job can include

Where testing supports replacement, the job can include access to the confirmed sensor, removal with the correct socket, installation of the matched part, wiring inspection, code clearing and a running-data recheck.

A seized sensor, damaged thread, broken connector, exhaust leak or catalyst fault changes the repair. Extra work is explained and needs your approval.

Mobile suitability and safety

The exhaust must be safely accessible and cool enough to work on. Severe corrosion, a sensor seized in a fragile exhaust section, damaged threads or access requiring major dismantling can make workshop repair necessary.

Stop driving and seek advice if the warning light flashes, the engine misfires severely, fuel is entering the exhaust, or the exhaust is damaged or leaking heavily.

Arrange a lambda-sensor check

Send your registration, postcode, warning-light details and fault codes if available. SP88 confirms the diagnostic or replacement scope, access, parts and price before work starts.

Scheduled starts are weekdays at 10:00, 12:00 and 14:00. Weekends are closed. Same-day availability is not guaranteed.
