Engine Mount Replacement in South London
Excess vibration, a thump during acceleration or visible engine movement can involve a worn mount—but other faults can feel similar. SP88 inspects the engine and gearbox mounting system before parts are ordered and confirms whether the repair is suitable for mobile work.
Diagnosis before replacement
Rough running, misfires, exhaust contact, worn suspension bushes and drivetrain faults can all transmit vibration into the body. We check when the symptom occurs, inspect accessible mounts and look for movement, tears, leaks or collapsed rubber before agreeing a mount.
Some vehicles use several different engine and gearbox mounts. Parts are matched using the registration or VIN and the confirmed position.
Symptoms worth checking
- Vibration through the body at idle
- A knock or thump when taking up drive
- Excess engine movement under load
- Clunks during gear changes
- A visibly split, collapsed or leaking mount
These signs do not prove a mount has failed. The engine must also be assessed for running faults and contact with surrounding components.
Different mount designs
Mounts may be solid rubber, hydraulic, vacuum-controlled or electronically controlled. A fluid-stained hydraulic mount, damaged vacuum hose or electrical fault changes the diagnosis and parts required. SP88 does not substitute a visually similar mount or promise compatibility without checking the exact vehicle.
What the agreed repair can include
The job can include supporting the engine or gearbox safely, removing the confirmed mount, fitting the correct replacement and rechecking movement and contact. Bolts or brackets that are specified for replacement are quoted with the job.
If inspection finds more than one worn mount, a running fault or damaged bracket, that is explained separately and requires your approval.
Mobile suitability and safety
Engine support needs firm, level ground, safe lifting points and sufficient access. Corroded fixings, restricted subframe access, heavy drivetrain movement or a mount that requires major dismantling can make workshop repair the safer option.
Stop and seek advice if the engine moves severely, a mount or bracket is fractured, or hoses, wiring, driveshafts or exhaust parts are being pulled or struck.
