CV Joint & Driveshaft Replacement in South London

Clicking on full steering lock, grease around a wheel or vibration under acceleration can involve a CV joint or driveshaft. SP88 confirms the source before parts are ordered and checks whether the repair is safe and practical at your South London or Surrey location.

Diagnosis before replacing a shaft

Wheel bearings, tyres, engine mounts, suspension joints, hubs and gearbox faults can create similar noises or vibration. We inspect the relevant side, check the CV boots and joints, and compare the symptom with road speed, steering angle and engine load before agreeing the repair.

Inner and outer joints are different parts. A complete driveshaft may be the correct repair on some vehicles, while others allow a separate joint or boot.

Signs that need checking

  • Rhythmic clicking while turning under power
  • Vibration or shudder during acceleration
  • Split CV boot or grease thrown around the wheel arch
  • Clunk when taking up drive
  • Visible play or damage at a shaft joint

A split boot caught early may not mean the joint has failed. Once dirt enters or clicking begins, the condition must be assessed.

What the agreed repair can include

The confirmed job can include an outer joint, inner joint, CV boot or complete driveshaft, plus specified hub nuts, seals or retaining clips. Parts are matched to the registration or VIN, transmission and exact side.

If a gearbox seal is disturbed or leaking, the correct oil level and specification must be considered. Any related work is quoted and approved separately.

Mobile suitability and workshop limits

Mobile replacement needs firm, level ground, safe lifting points and enough access around the hub and shaft. Seized hub splines, damaged threads, heavy corrosion, a shaft stuck in the gearbox or work requiring a press can make workshop repair necessary.

Where suspension or steering geometry is disturbed, an alignment check may also be required. SP88 will identify this rather than treating the old component position as proof of correct alignment.

When not to drive

Stop and arrange advice or recovery if a joint is close to separation, the shaft is striking nearby parts, drive is being lost, or vibration is severe. Continued driving can damage hubs, seals, gearbox components and surrounding wiring or brake hoses.

Related mechanical checks

A humming or rough wheel may need wheel-bearing diagnosis. Body vibration at idle or when taking up drive may involve an engine or gearbox mount. For broader mechanical work, visit the mobile mechanic hub.

Arrange a CV-joint or driveshaft check

Send your registration, postcode and symptoms, including which side is noisy and whether it happens when turning, accelerating or coasting. SP88 confirms parts, access, scope and price before work starts.

Scheduled starts are weekdays at 10:00, 12:00 and 14:00. Weekends are closed. Same-day availability is not guaranteed.
