EGR Cooler Replacement in South London

Coolant loss, exhaust steam or an EGR-system fault can point towards the EGR cooler, but similar symptoms also come from hoses, the EGR valve, the turbo system or the engine itself. SP88 checks the evidence before planning replacement.

When an EGR cooler should be assessed

These symptoms justify inspection; none proves the cooler has failed on its own.

Unexplained coolant loss

A cooler can leak internally or externally, but caps, hoses, radiators, pumps and engine seals must also be considered.

White steam or sweet exhaust smell

Coolant entering the exhaust path may create steam, although condensation and engine faults can look similar.

EGR-flow or cooler-efficiency codes

Stored codes need live-data, temperature and circuit context before parts are ordered.

Overheating or pressure concerns

Stop driving an overheating vehicle. Cooling-system pressure and combustion-gas evidence may need checking.

How the appointment works

  1. Describe the symptoms. Share the registration, engine details, warning lights and when the fault appears.
  2. We confirm the repair path. We check access, parts and whether the work is suitable at your location or needs workshop facilities.
  3. Book a weekday start. Scheduled services start at 10:00, 12:00 or 14:00 Monday to Friday. Weekends are closed.
  4. Repair and checks. The approved cooler, seals and specified hardware are fitted, the cooling system is restored and bled, and leaks and relevant readings are rechecked.
Diagnosis matters: an EGR code does not prove the cooler is faulty, and coolant loss does not automatically mean a head-gasket failure. Testing separates the cooler from the valve, pipework and wider engine causes.

What is included—and what may change the job

A confirmed job can include removal of accessible EGR pipework, replacement of the vehicle-matched cooler, new seals or gaskets, correct coolant and bleeding.

EGR-cooler access varies widely and can involve seized exhaust fasteners or major dismantling. SP88 does not offer EGR deletion or removal of legally required emissions equipment; complex repairs may need workshop facilities.

Parts are matched to the vehicle after registration or VIN checks. We do not claim universal compatibility, and we confirm access and repair location before booking.
