Cooling-system pressure and leak repair

Coolant Expansion Tank Replacement in South London

A cracked expansion tank, damaged cap or leaking connection can cause coolant loss and overheating. SP88 identifies the leak and checks the wider cooling system before replacing the reservoir.

Signs the expansion tank needs checking

Never remove a coolant cap from a hot, pressurised engine. Allow the vehicle to cool and seek advice if it has overheated.

Visible crack or staining

Dried coolant marks, wet seams or deformation can indicate a leaking reservoir.

Coolant around the cap

The cap may not hold the specified pressure, but overpressure can also be caused elsewhere in the system.

Repeated low-coolant warning

Frequent topping-up indicates a leak or circulation problem that should be tested.

Overheating or bubbling

Stop driving safely. Trapped air, circulation faults or combustion gases need to be separated from a simple tank leak.

How the appointment works

  1. Describe the symptoms. Share the registration, engine details, warning lights and when the fault appears.
  2. We confirm the repair path. We check access, parts and whether the work is suitable at your location or needs workshop facilities.
  3. Book a weekday start. Scheduled services start at 10:00, 12:00 or 14:00 Monday to Friday. Weekends are closed.
  4. Repair and checks. The matched tank, cap or agreed connections are fitted, specified coolant is restored, the system is bled and accessible leaks are rechecked.
Diagnosis matters: coolant around the tank does not prove the reservoir alone is at fault. The cap, level sensor, return hose and system pressure all need context.

What is included—and what may change the job

A confirmed repair can include the expansion reservoir, cap, level-sensor transfer where specified, clamps or seals, correct coolant and bleeding.

If the vehicle has severely overheated, continues to overpressurise or shows evidence of an internal engine fault, further workshop diagnosis is required before normal driving.

Parts are matched to the vehicle after registration or VIN checks. We do not claim universal compatibility, and we confirm access and repair location before booking.
