Brake pedal feels unusually hard
Loss of assistance can make normal stopping require much more pedal force.
Hard brake pedal and vacuum-assist faults
A hard pedal or reduced brake assistance can involve the servo, but vacuum pumps, hoses, non-return valves, engine vacuum and hydraulic faults can cause similar symptoms. SP88 tests the system before replacement.
Loss of assistance can make normal stopping require much more pedal force.
A vacuum leak may be in the servo, hose, valve or another connected circuit.
On some engines a vacuum leak can affect idle when the brake pedal is pressed.
Vacuum supply, pump output, stored vacuum and valve operation all need checking.
We inspect accessible vacuum hoses and valves, assess assistance behaviour and check related fault information. The braking system and vehicle-specific servo arrangement are confirmed before work is authorised.
Diagnosis may be mobile. Servo replacement often involves restricted access around the pedal box, master cylinder and bulkhead, so some vehicles require workshop facilities.
SP88 covers Wallington, Sutton, Croydon, Purley and nearby South London and Surrey areas.
Send the registration, postcode and a clear description of the pedal feel. Planned appointments start on weekdays at 10:00, 12:00 or 14:00. Weekends are closed.
A hard pedal does not by itself prove the servo has failed.
