Brake Master Cylinder Diagnosis & Replacement in South London

A soft, sinking or inconsistent brake pedal needs proper diagnosis before a master cylinder is ordered. SP88 checks for fluid loss, air, external leaks and related brake-system faults first, then confirms whether replacement is appropriate.

Safety comes before parts

A sinking pedal can be caused by an internal master-cylinder bypass, but similar symptoms can come from leaking calipers or wheel cylinders, damaged hoses or pipes, air in the system, poor bleeding, an ABS hydraulic fault or adjustment problems elsewhere in the brakes.

If the pedal suddenly changes, a red brake warning appears, fluid is visibly leaking or braking performance is reduced, do not drive the vehicle to an appointment. Arrange safe recovery or urgent advice.

What we inspect

  • Brake-fluid level and visible contamination
  • Accessible pipes, hoses, calipers and wheel cylinders for leaks
  • Pedal hold and travel behaviour
  • Servo assistance and basic vacuum-related symptoms
  • Stored ABS or brake-system faults where relevant

Diagnosis is limited by access and the vehicle design; hidden internal faults may require workshop pressure testing or component removal.

Correct cylinder, fluid and bleeding

The bore, outlet positions, reservoir arrangement and electronic features must match the vehicle. Some master cylinders include or connect to pressure sensors; others share a reservoir with the clutch. SP88 confirms the part from the registration or VIN.

Replacement normally requires careful pipe handling, the correct brake-fluid specification and a controlled bleeding procedure. Some vehicles also require a scan-tool ABS bleed sequence. Old or contaminated fluid is not reused.

Mobile and workshop limits

Mobile work may be possible on level private ground with safe access, suitable weather and no severely seized pipe unions or extensive system contamination. Workshop work may be required for corroded fittings, ABS hydraulic procedures, difficult access, additional leaks or faults found during inspection.

The vehicle is not released as repaired until the pedal and visible system checks are satisfactory; a road test is only carried out when safe.
