ABS Warning Light & Wheel-Speed Sensor Diagnosis in South London
An ABS code naming one wheel does not automatically prove its sensor needs replacing. SP88 checks live wheel-speed data, visible wiring and related components first, then confirms whether a sensor, bearing encoder, reluctor ring or another fault is responsible.
Diagnose the complete signal path
The ABS control unit relies on a clean signal from each wheel. A fault can be caused by the sensor itself, damaged wiring, a poor connector, corrosion, an incorrect air gap, a cracked reluctor ring, a magnetic encoder built into the wheel bearing, low system voltage or an ABS-module communication problem.
We read the stored faults and compare available live wheel speeds before agreeing a replacement. Clearing a code without finding the cause is not a repair.
Symptoms and safety warnings
- ABS, traction-control or stability-control warning light
- One wheel-speed reading drops out or disagrees with the others
- ABS intervention at very low speed when braking
- Warning returns after a previous sensor replacement
- Fault appeared after wheel-bearing, suspension or brake work
If a red brake warning is on, the pedal feels abnormal, brake fluid is leaking or braking performance has changed, stop driving and arrange safe recovery or urgent advice.
When sensor replacement is confirmed
The exact axle, side, connector and sensor type must be matched to the vehicle. On some models the sensor is separate; on others the magnetic encoder is part of the wheel bearing or hub. A code description alone cannot establish which part to order.
Where suitable, SP88 can replace an accessible confirmed sensor, secure the wiring correctly, clear the stored fault and recheck live data. A controlled road test may be required to confirm that all wheel speeds remain consistent.
Mobile inspection and workshop limits
Mobile diagnosis is suitable where the vehicle is safely parked with enough space to inspect the relevant wheel and wiring. Seized sensors, damaged hubs, bearing replacement, extensive harness repair or faults needing lift access may require workshop facilities.
We do not promise that every ABS warning is a sensor fault or that replacing a sensor will cure module, hydraulic-unit or network problems. Any additional work is explained before parts are fitted.
