What SP88 checks before you buy
The exact inspection is adapted to the vehicle, age, condition and access. These are the main areas reviewed without dismantling the car.
Identity & history clues
Registration, VIN labels and visible identifiers are checked for consistency. Service records, warning messages and seller information are reviewed, but a paid provenance or finance check is separate unless agreed.
Engine & transmission
Cold-start behaviour where possible, fluid condition, leaks, noises, smoke, warning lamps, idle quality and transmission operation are assessed within the limits of a non-invasive inspection.
Diagnostics & electrics
A multi-system diagnostic scan can reveal stored or current faults. Battery condition, charging behaviour, lighting, windows, locking, climate controls and accessible electrical functions are checked.
Brakes, tyres & suspension
Visible brake condition, tyre tread and wear patterns, wheel condition, steering feel and suspension symptoms are reviewed. Measurements are recorded where access and equipment allow.
Bodywork & previous repairs
Panel gaps, paint differences, overspray, corrosion, glazing and signs of previous accident repair are examined. No visual check can guarantee what is hidden behind trim or under filler.
Road test & report

Important inspection limits
A pre-purchase inspection reduces risk; it cannot guarantee future reliability or reveal every hidden defect. SP88 does not dismantle components, strip trim, open sealed systems or confirm outstanding finance and stolen status unless a separate data check is agreed. Underbody access is limited without a safe ramp or lift. Hybrid and EV high-voltage systems are not dismantled during a standard inspection.

A road test is completed only when the vehicle is safe and road legal, suitable insurance is in place, the location allows it and the seller gives permission. If it cannot be driven, that limitation is recorded.
Not automatically. A mechanical inspection and a vehicle-history or finance check answer different questions. Arrange the data check separately unless it is expressly included in your confirmed booking.
SP88 can look for visible repair quality, panel alignment, diagnostic faults and road-test symptoms, subject to access and scope. Hidden structural condition may require a bodyshop, alignment equipment or a ramp inspection.
