Exhaust and emissions repair

Catalytic Converter Replacement in South London

Catalytic-converter efficiency faults, rattles or exhaust damage need diagnosis before an expensive replacement. SP88 checks likely causes, confirms the correct converter and keeps the road-going emissions system intact.

When the catalytic converter should be checked

A catalyst code can be the result of another engine or exhaust fault. The cause should be addressed so a replacement is not damaged again.

Catalyst-efficiency fault code

Codes such as an efficiency-below-threshold result need oxygen-sensor, fuelling and exhaust-leak context.

Rattle from the converter area

A broken substrate may rattle, but heat shields and nearby exhaust sections can sound similar.

Failed emissions test

An MOT emissions failure can relate to the converter, sensors, misfire, fuel control or exhaust leaks.

Impact or corrosion damage

Visible damage may justify replacement after the correct unit, joints and fitting requirements are confirmed.

How the appointment works

  1. Describe the symptoms. Share the registration, engine details, warning lights and when the fault appears.
  2. We confirm the repair path. We check access, parts and whether the work is suitable at your location or needs workshop facilities.
  3. Book a weekday start. Scheduled services start at 10:00, 12:00 or 14:00 Monday to Friday. Weekends are closed.
  4. Repair and checks. The approved converter and required joints are fitted, leaks are checked and related diagnostic evidence is reviewed before handover.
Diagnosis matters: a catalyst-efficiency code does not automatically mean the converter is the root cause. Misfire, oil burning, incorrect fuelling, sensor faults or exhaust leaks can damage or mimic a failed catalyst.

What is included—and what may change the job

Work can include fault-code review, accessible exhaust inspection, replacement planning and fitting of a correctly matched catalytic converter with required gaskets or clamps.

SP88 does not offer de-cat work or removal of legally required emissions equipment. Severely seized systems, welding or complex access may require workshop facilities.

Parts are matched to the vehicle after registration or VIN checks. We do not claim universal compatibility, and we confirm access and repair location before booking.
